KOREAN MENTOR
PROGRAM
We invite Korean adults, high school students and
older, to serve as mentors and work with parent coordinators in each classroom.
A mentor is one who:
Is comfortable with who they are and who is
proud of their Korean heritage.
- Understands how learning about Korean culture
helps instill pride in birth heritage.
- Allows someone younger than themselves to ask
"What was it like for you when you were my age?" or "What did you do
when________happened?"
- Does not dwell on themselves and yet is open to
sharing their own experiences.
- Mentors will be provided housing, a noon Korean
meal, and an honorarium.
Kamp Kimchee invites you to apply for
a position with the Mentor Program. It is an opportunity for past Kamp Kimchee
participants and other Korean or Asian Pacific adults (whether adopted or not)
to share their strengths with younger kampers. We invite you to consider
application to this program as a way of sharing what you have learned with
Korean adoptees. We believe that your positive modeling is of great value to
others and that you pave the way for future generations of Korean
adoptees.
Each Mentor will assist parent
volunteers with the coordination of a class, kindergarten through high school.
There will be some time during each day when you will be asked to share with the
class.
An application and the program
guidelines can be obtained below. Notification of Mentors will be made by
mid-June. Compensation for the week includes housing (for out of town staff),
Korean noon meals and a stipend of $100-$200 depending upon experience and
responsibilities.
Persons accepted as mentors will be
asked to attend an orientation Further details regarding orientation and kamp
activities will be sent in your acceptance letter.
